Sermon Title: “King of Conquerors”
Scripture Passage: Romans 8:31-39

Three Points:

1. The Certainty of God’s Provision
2. The Confidence in God’s Protection
3. The Conquest Through God’s Power
Title: King of Conquerors
Scripture: Romans 8:31-39
31 What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?
32 He who did not spare his own Son but gave him up for us all, how will he not also with him graciously give us all things?
33 Who shall bring any charge against God's elect? It is God who justifies.
34 Who is to condemn? Christ Jesus is the one who died—more than that, who was raised—who is at the right hand of God, who indeed is interceding for us.
35 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or danger, or sword?
36 As it is written,
“For your sake we are being killed all the day long;
we are regarded as sheep to be slaughtered.”
37 No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us.
38 For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers,
39 nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Introduction:

In a world distraught with challenges, where global tensions are high, and personal trials seem relentless, many are searching for a sense of assurance and victory.
Imagine standing behind an undefeated general, one whose mere presence guarantees victory.
This is not a distant fantasy; this is the reality for those who belong to Christ, the King of Conquerors.
The Apostle Paul, in Romans 8:31-39, delivers a powerful message about the certainty of victory for those who are in Christ.
Let's look at this passage and discover the deep truths that speak to our hearts today.
1. The Certainty of God's Provision (vv. 31-32)
31 What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? 32 He who did not spare his own Son but gave him up for us all, how will he not also with him graciously give us all things?
Paul begins with a rhetorical question, “τί οὖν ἐροῦμεν πρὸς ταῦτα; εἰ ὁ Θεὸς ὑπὲρ ἡμῶν, τίς καθ’ ἡμῶν;” — "What then shall we say to these things?
If God is for us, who can be against us?"
This is a powerful affirmation of God's unwavering support for His people.
God’s Provision is Unstoppable: The phrase “ὁ Θεὸς ὑπὲρ ἡμῶν” (God is for us) underscores that God is not just with us, but actively working on our behalf.
The giving of His Son, “τοῦ ἰδίου Υἱοῦ,” highlights the ultimate provision.
If God did not withhold His own Son, the most precious gift, how will He not also, along with Him, freely give us all things (τὰ πάντα)?
Application:
In a world where financial instability and uncertainty are common, this truth reminds us that our provision comes from the divine source.
Whether it’s financial provision, health, or relational needs, God’s supply is abundant and sure.
2. The Confidence in God’s Protection (vv. 33-34)
33 Who shall bring any charge against God's elect? It is God who justifies. 34 Who is to condemn? Christ Jesus is the one who died—more than that, who was raised—who is at the right hand of God, who indeed is interceding for us.
Paul asks, “τίς ἐγκαλέσει κατὰ ἐκλεκτῶν Θεοῦ;” — "Who shall bring a charge against God's elect?"
The language here is legal, suggesting a courtroom where the verdict has already been declared by the ultimate Judge.
God’s Protection is Unquestionable: The term “ἐκλεκτοί” (elect) refers to those chosen by God,
and “ὁ Θεὸς ὁ δικαιῶν” (God who justifies) emphasizes that God alone has the authority to declare us righteous.
The death, resurrection, and ongoing intercession of Christ (“Χριστὸς ὁ ἀποθανών… ἐν δεξιᾷ τοῦ Θεοῦ”) provide the ultimate security against any accusation.
Application: In today’s world, where social media and public opinion can quickly turn against us, we need to remember that our ultimate security is in God’s justification.
When we face false accusations or spiritual attacks, we stand confidently knowing that Christ is our defender.
3. The Conquest through God’s Power (vv. 35-39)
“35 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or danger, or sword? 36 As it is written,
“For your sake we are being killed all the day long;
we are regarded as sheep to be slaughtered.”
37 No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. 38 For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, 39 nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
Paul’s final rhetorical question, “τίς ἡμᾶς χωρίσει ἀπὸ τῆς ἀγάπης τοῦ Χριστοῦ;” — "Who shall separate us from the love of Christ?"
— leads to a crescendo of assurance that nothing can sever the bond between Christ and His people.
God’s Power is Unstoppable:
The term “ὑπερνικῶμεν” (more than conquerors) in verse 37 is remarkable.
It’s not just about victory; it’s about overwhelming victory, where the outcome is not even in question.
Paul lists every conceivable threat—tribulation, distress, persecution, famine, nakedness, peril, or sword (θλῖψις, στενοχωρία, διωγμός, λιμός, γυμνότης, κίνδυνος, μάχαιρα)
—and declares that none of these can separate us from the love of God in Christ!!!
Application:
As we face the trials of today—whether personal, societal, or global—we must live with the confidence that we are more than conquerors. (...repeat)
This is not just a call to survive but to thrive, to live boldly in the assurance that God’s love empowers us to overcome every obstacle.
Life Applications:
1. Trust in God’s Provision:
In your everyday life, remember that God’s provision is sure and enough.
Whether it’s material needs, emotional support, or spiritual guidance, God will provide.
Let this truth guide your prayers and your actions, trusting that He who did not spare His own Son will meet all your needs.
2. Stand Firm in God’s Protection:
When you face accusations or challenges, remind yourself of your identity in Christ. (audience of one…)
You are justified by God, and no charge against you can stand.
Lean into the protection that comes from being one of God’s elect, knowing that Christ intercedes for you.
3. Live as a Conqueror:
Embrace your identity as more than a conqueror.
Whether facing personal struggles or global crises, walk in the assurance that nothing can separate you from the love of God.
Let this confidence propel you into bold action, knowing that the outcome is already secured.
Winston Churchill...
“Never give in - never, never, never, never, in nothing great or small, large or petty, never give in except to convictions of honour and good sense. Never yield to force; never yield to the apparently overwhelming might of the enemy.”
Conclusion:
In closing, hold onto the truth that Jesus Christ is the King of Conquerors.
In Him, we have provision, protection, and power that is unmatched and unshakable.
No matter what we face, we can stand firm, knowing that nothing can separate us from His love.
Let this truth guide your life, your decisions, and your faith as you walk with the confidence of a conqueror.
